This master studio is interested in the collective housing and in its implantation in the cities up to day. It also treats the question of the inheritance of the modern movement. The site is located in Hamburg (DE) in the Dulsberg area, which was planned by Fritz Schumacher in the early twenties. The area is composed by collective housing, small commerces as well as schools. The particularity of its plan are the buildings with courtyards, which dimensions are considerably big. They are accessible to the public but express a very private character, allowing the inhabitants to appropriate these exteriors and live in community. On the West along the plot is a slightly raised railway. On the South-Est is the famous school from Fritz Schumacher. The building tries to close the area of Dulsberg drawn by Fritz Schumacher by aligning itself to its main lines and by working on the courtyard theme. It is composed by two different faces. The first one is the street facade, very unitarian and planar, reinforcing the impression of massivity of the project. The second one are the courtyards. The building is formed by three courtyards, proposing varied experiences and typologies, in reference to the variety of courtyrads present in the area. Among the three courtyards is a “Lichthof”. It is the courtyard that is located on the South side of the plot and which also is the smallest. On the ground floor is a coffee shop and grocery stores like a bakery, a cheese store, a butchery as well as a vegetable store. On the floors is a library that belongs to the coffee shop and two and a half room apartments, distributed by a coursive. This one is punctually detached from the interior facade in oder to guarantee a bigger privacy to the dwellings. The living space as well as the bedroom gives access to a loggia, which windows are opening on the exterior. In that way, the use of the inhabitants brings a perpetual change in the street facade.
